Birdlife on The Gannel River in August by June Fullwood

Numbers of Curlews are gradually increasing as birds return from their breeding grounds. Most of the hedgerow birds have finished breeding, but the majority stay with us for the winter months.

Look out for Oyster catcher, Heron, Greater Canada Geese, Little White Egret, Heron, Kingfishers, Cormorant, Dunlin, Sanderling, Redshank, Ringed Plover, Common Gull, Black Backed Gull, Blackheaded Gull, Swallow, Swift and House Martin.

Also seen:

Blackcap, Goldcrest, Starling, Willow Warbler, Robin, Coal Tit, Blue Tit, Great Tit, Longtailed Tit, Goldfinch, Wren, Blackbird, House Sparrow, Great Spotted Woodpecker, Magpie, Rook, Sparrowhawk, Peregrine, Buzzard, Grey Wagtail, Rock Pipit, Greenfinch, Song Thrush, Barn Owl and Tawny Owl.
