The Cornwall Wildlife Trust is involved in marine conservation and held a meeting earlier this year where Tom Hardy, the CWT Marine Conservation Officer, talked about the Trust's plans to help conserve cetaceans around the coast of Cornwall. These include a scheme to provide data on inshore cetacean populations and bycatch levels around Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly; the trial with local fishermen of 'pingers' - devices used to deter dolphins from getting caught in fishing nets - and the identification of areas of the sea, known as Marine Conservation Zones, to be protected under new legislation.

There is also a lot of work involved in the study of sea animals found stranded on Cornwall's beaches. From these studies we can find ways to prevent future strandings.
