Several of Newquay's beaches are backed by beautiful sand dunes including Fistral, Crantock Holywell and Mawgan Porth. These dunes protect the land from the forces of the sea and provide a home for abundant and specialised wildlife. Follow these simple guidelines to ensure that future generations can continue to enjoy these special habitats.
  • Enjoy the wildlife

If you are quiet and considerate you stand a better chance of seeing interesting birds and animals. Keep to the network of paths to avoid ground nesting skylarks and listen out for their song

  • Help to protect Newquay's natural sea defenses

Please keep out of fenced areas, where dune restoration is in progress. Marram grass, the main dune-building plant, dies quickly if trampled on justa few times.

  • Help prevent erosion by walking rather than riding

Vehicles can rapidly damage dunes and the use of bikes, boards and motorised vehicles is normally not permitted by law.

  • Be a responsible dog owner

Dog fouling changes the flower rich dune grassland, kills rare plants and is hazardous to children. Please clean up after your dog and keep it under control to protect breeding skylarks.

  • Keep Newquay's coast and seas clean for everyone to enjoy

Take your litter home or put it in bins provided. Please dont leave litter beside bins - our coast is very windy and rubbish blows for miles into the countryside and seas.

  • Camping, fires and BBQs are not permitted on the sand dunes.

They kill the vegetation, increase serious fire risk and disturb nocturnal wildlife.
